£185 to include materials, food and studio drinks for the day. Booking fee £25 in advance.
This is a one day course run by an International master arrowsmith. It
is designed to give experience in forging the simple bodkins that were used
in the medieval period. Some forging
experience is necessary as good hammer control is required. The aim will be
to forge a set of six matching bodkin heads by the end of the day. The maximum number of places per day is
two so that each person will receive individual tuition and guidance.
People attending the course will need to wear
suitable clothing. This means stout
footwear, trousers that cover the top of the footwear and suitable shirt or
jumper. The wearing of nylon type
materials is not recommended.
Gloves, aprons and eye protection will be provided.
Drinks will be available in the studio throughout
the day. A mid-day bar meal will be
provided in the village pub opposite the studio. Bar drinks are not included in the cost of
the meal.
PROGRAMME FOR

Introduction to the workshop facilities and equipment including
safety. Examples of the different
types of bodkin heads. Demonstration
of forging a bodkin.
10.00 AM. First
practical session on forging an arrowhead.
11.00 AM. Break
for drinks and biscuits.
11.20 AM. Techincal demonstration and second practical session.
1.00 PM. Lunch
break in Pub.
2.00 PM. Third
practical session with appropriate demonstrations and instruction where
applicable.
3.45 PM. Break
for drinks and biscuits.
4.00 PM. Final
practical session.
5.00 PM.
Completion of work and tidy up.

is a one day course in basic blade smithing techniques. It is designed to
give an introduction to forging blades and is for people who have some
experience of forging hot steel. The
maximum number of places per course is three to ensure that everyone
receives individual tuition.
All
forging materials will be provided.
People
attending the course will need to wear suitable clothing. This means stout footwear, trousers that
cover the top of the footwear and suitable shirt or jumper. The wearing of nylon type materials is
not recommended. Gloves, aprons and
